Research
The VALGEN project is designed to understand and respond to the deep governance challenges and opportunities of applied genomics for bioproducts and crops by focusing on the core issues of intellectual property management, regulation and governance and democratic engagement in order to add value to the genomics science and integrated GE3LS projects.

The project will work with three domains of knowledge related to governance:
1) Identification and triage to find out what is known about the governance of ABC technology and products,
2) Problem-solving normal research where theory, models, methods metrics and data are available to solve research puzzles but have not been applied fully. It engages where the link between theories and evidence is lacking. From this we gain a better understanding of the choices we are making now, such as management policies and innovation strategies.
3) Foresight research, challenged by many unknowns, investigates future constraints by current governance systems and seeks options to resolve these issues or to realize opportunities.
These three types of knowledge intersect with three focal issue areas: Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer, Regulation and Governance and Democratic Engagement.
